Dino Campana. Els cants Òrfics. Un llibre dels de debò. Un llibre important i molt complex, difícil. Una experiència radical de creació i de lectura. Un gran pas endavant en la poesia del segle XX (o XXI?).
Doncs bé. Acaben de sortir dues traduccions al català d'aquest monument. Posem-les una sobre l'altra: Campana sobre Campana. Què passa? Que "sobre campana, una". Vull dir que només es parla d'una de les dues traduccions, de la que ha fet (o ha "malfet") Susanna Rafart. De l'altra, la del poeta i assagista Arnau Pons, ningú no en parla.
Jo no sóc molt entès en italià, ni tampoc un erudit de la poesia. Però me les he mirades totes dues, aquestes traduccions. I les he comparades. I, sabeu què us dic? que trobo que la de la Susanna Rafart és molt inferior, lingüísticament pobra, poèticament fluixa, amb errors de traducció garrafals (ja ho va dir Pere Ballart a l'Avui). Una traducció d'estudiant de primer d'italià i d'aprenentet de poeta. No respira, no hi ha la poesia de Dino Campana. Hi ha uns textos que més o menys se li assemblen de lluny.
En canvi, Arnau Pons, sovint polèmic, però sempre rigorós com ningú, mostra una traducció compromesa, treballada, arriscada, valenta. Que porta Campana al Català. A la manera de Pons, sí. Tal com féu amb Celan o amb Luiza Neto Jorge. Però dóna el to just de Campana. Ens permet llegir Campana en català tal i com el llegeix un italià en la seva llengua. I això no passa amb la raducció de Rafart, que es queda tan curta tan curta, que en comptes de Campana sembla un cascavellet rovellat (i permeti'm la broma). Pons, a més, anota profusament el text i aclareix molt i molt de la poesia de Campana sovint titllada sense raó d'incomprensible o gratuïta. I,a més, ens regala els poemes de Campana noinclosos en els Cants. I un parell d'articles (de Rossend Arqués i Brunella Servidei) que ens ajude molt. I, deixeu-m'ho dir, l'edició d'aquesta traducció, l'objecte-llibre, vull dir, és una edició cuidada i mimada de debò.
Però, em demano, per què tothom parla de Susanna Rafart i la seva traïció i ningú no parla d'Arnau Pons i la seva traducció? Per què hi ha crítics que han gosat dir que la traducció de Rafart és tan bona quan és clar que conté errades monumentals i que no funciona? Per què cap dels qui han parlat de la traducció de Rafart no fa esment de la de Pons?
No ho sé, però m'ho imagino. Alguna cosa estranya hi deu haver per aquí el mig. Tampoc no vaig entendre mai per què un llibre com "Un cor grec. Memòries i notes d'un viatge", tan insuls, mal escrit i buit, ple de tòpics i llocs comuns i del tot superficial, i que desparofita un tema que podria ser prou interessant, va ser objecte de tan bones crìtiques i fins i tot se li va donar un premi. No. No s'entén. Només s'entendria per l'analfabetisme dels crítics (cosa que no crec) o per altres motius.
Però en aquesta cultura em sembla que no hi ha res per entendre. Ja se sap: el sol s'està colgant. I tots tan feliços.

No és cert que ningú no parli de la traducció del senyor Arnau Pons. N'han parlat la Lourdes Duran, del Diario de Mallorca, i en Pere Ballart de l'Avui, entre d'altres.
El que passa és que així com tu confesses que no saps italià, en Pere Ballart tampoc no en sap, però no ho reconeix si no és en la intimitat. I la Rafart sí que en sap. Només cal dir que va traduir l'hermètic Salvatore Quasimodo, de dificultat equiparable a la de Campana.
Cal destacar que el llibre de la Rafart ha estat supervisat per Francesco Ardolino, professor de la UB i especialista en Campana, que ha fet un pròleg ben clar a fi de guiar de debò el lector.
L'edició de l'Arnau Pons o, més ben dit, l'autoedició, ja que se l'ha publicat ell mateix en la col·lecció que dirigeix, afegeix poemes que no s'han d'afegir si es vol ser mínimament curós en la publicació sistemàtica dels textos de l'autor. I, més greu, afegeix versos que mai no han existit a determinats cants.
El llibre-objecte que tu dius pot ser molt bonic, però a banda de car és molt poc útil per al lector perquè en comptes d'acarar cada poema traduït amb el seu original, relega el text italià íntegre al final del llibre.
Ah, i la traducció de la Rafart compta amb l'aval de l'Istituto Italiano di Cultura. Qui garanteix la solvència de l'Arnau Pons?

Atesa la concessió del Premi Atlàntida en la “Nit de l’Edició” del proppassat 18 de desembre a Bartomeu Fiol com a millor articulista en llengua catalana per la seva tasca de divulgació literària a el “Diari de Balears”, i que el guardonat, model d’equanimitat gens suspecte de conspirar amb ningú i menys encara amb “sindicats”, no encaixa dins la categoria de “crític analfabet” que vosaltres reserveu a qui valori positivament “Un cor grec” de la Rafart, caldria fer-vos saber, que:
Va dedicar tres dels articles que l’han fet mereixedor del guardó (3!) en tres setmanes consecutives precisament a valorar altament “Un cor grec”. D’altra banda, en els respectius articles que ell equilibradament dedica a cadascuna de les dues traduccions de Campana, fa elogi de totes dues edicions (la qual cosa em sembla molt bé), però atenció a l’únic comentari que dedica pròpiament a la traducció d’Arnau Pons: “Però a un servidor el que més ha aprofitat de la feina d’Arnau Pons hauran estat les seves versions d’Altre poesie, a partir dels versos esparsos”.

Definitivament, doncs, a “el sol s’està colgant”, jo afegiria “I el vespre ve tot d’una”.
